Just Your All Around Average American Guy
It all started with just your All Around Average American kind of guy named Tony Boswell, who also happened to be a Trucker at the time, on a quest to find a piece of software to watch TV on PC while he was away on the road because he loved to watch a few TV on the SciFi and Discovery Channels. After several attempts and a few hundred dollars down the tubes, he realized that most of what was out there is completely ran by scam artists and cons. It's the same old thing, they offer you every channel on the planet and deliver a view from the gutter.
Sick and tired he began keeping track of these programs by creating a list of criteria that no scam artist could possibly live up to. Out of this effort, TVForTruckers.com was born. A very short time after this close friend , and another Trucker, suggested that he direct his campaign for public awareness more to the general consumer, not just Truckers and SatelliteTVOnMyPC.com was formed very soon after. The Basis For Our Test Criteria And 3 Phase ProcessInitially testing was slow. The development of our founder's testing criteria was constructed over time as he vigorously went through product after product, quickly discovering that almost all of the products were lacking in certain key areas that would not only be important to just himself, but to any consumer.
Customer Service:
A very important factor in the decision to purchase any product or service. Our founder new this early on, and that a scammer would not have a customer service or support system set up for a product they were trying to swindle you out of your money with. This became the cornerstone in the foundation of all his testing phases. Before Tony would even purchase a product he would first make contact using their own website's customer service or support links that they provided. In the case they had no links, or an alternative mean for a customer to contact the owner of the website, he just moved on and wrote it off for what it was - SCAM!
Initially he just tested the link with a simple email. Later he realized that if he asked for clarification of their warranties or money back guarantees, he would have it in black and white later to help him procure a refund. An email has an interesting piece of code placed in it that can also be used as tracking information. It's called the header and it includes the website's domain in the sender's email address. Armed with this and a warranty or guarantee in the body and it is as good as gold with the Better Business Bureau, as well as the Foreign Trade Commission, Federal Bureau of Investigations and the scammers own ISP and Service that handled his sales for him (PayPal, eBay, ClickBank, etc.).
Image Quality and Definition of Picture
Out of the thousand's of channels that most of Pc Satellite TV products claimed, only a few worked and the ones that did you could barely make out the picture on the screen because of pixilation, distortion, or choppy feeds. And it got worse from there when you tried to enlarge the picture to full screen, if the software even allowed you to watch it in anything else other than a small 320x150 display!
Variety and Quality of the Channels that actually worked
Many of the products claimed quality content, but he quickly discovered that a majority of programming for these channels came from overseas, in languages that an average American like himself would not understand, thus, the claimed quality was non exist to a user such as himself. And very few carried the channels they actually claimed to, such as HBO, Cinemax, Disney, etc., and if they did, again the quality of the picture was poor or the feed just didn't work at all.
Channel or Feed Load Times
A video stream can contain between 24 to 30 frames per second. A TV quality frame (640x480x24bits/pixel) consumes around 921,000 bytes. This equates to 27MB per second of just video data alone. The compression ratio of lossless methods (e.g., Huffman, Arithmetic, LZW) is not high enough to distribute this kind of video over a network like the Internet. Will an average user be able to use this service? Does it take extremely high bandwidth or a some kind of special video codec to provide a good service and was this expressed to the user before purchase of the product?
Video compression algorithms were created to enable video to be played and saved on a computer. A compressor algorithm takes a original uncompressed image or video and reduces its size. Because of the smaller size, the speed requirements for the storage devices are greatly reduced. To play back the compressed data, a decompression algorithm is used to decompress the data so it can be displayed on the screen.
Overall Value of the Product to the average user
Out of the first 40 Pc Satellite TV Programs he found that less than a handful actually worked "as advertised". Undaunted by the enormous challenge in time and money ahead of him, he persevered, delving into several other ways to watch Pc Satellite TV, from exploring even more Pc Satellite TV to Live Satellite TV Feeds, to even exploring some SlingMedia's SlingBox and Wireless PCTV's "Place Shifting" Technologies. Our CommitmentIn the end, our Founder made it his mission and ours, to try to keep others from falling victim to these scams, and to provide The Absolute Best Recommendations For What The Net Has To Offer in terms of Pc Satellite TV Products so that you could also enjoy watching Satellite TV on Your PC without the worry of being scammed.
